13th ANNUAL LAW ENFORCEMENT DAY

LAW ENFORCEMENT DAY 2006

Cool weather didn't dampen the spirits of the students that attended this annual county-wide event.  The Higginsville Police Department hosted the annual event attended by D.A.R.E. students from Wellington, Higginsville, St. Paul's, Concordia, Immanuel Lutheran, Santa Fe, and the Rainbow Center at the Higginsville City Park.  Students participated in games and learned about law enforcement activities.  Law enforcement activities included the Crisis Action Team (SWAT), K9,  Missouri Conservation Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Probation and Parole, and Higginsville Fire Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms.

Students began the day by watching a parade of emergency vehicles enter the park, followed by introductions.  Then students went to game and demonstration areas to learn about law enforcement and fire activities.  Lunch for the students was prepared by the Higginsville Optimists Club.  At the end of the day, the rain stopped and the students watched a mock SWAT Team entry that turned into a car chase and ended with the "bad guys" being apprehended by Knight the K9 and a Deputy.   Students were then treated to a car fire suppression demonstration by the Higginsville Fire Department.  Already wet, students enjoyed a good "soaking" by the fire department.
